by Lizette Feris

As with every coastal town the most popular dish in Swakopmund is seafood, no matter how it is prepared. Here we review about the most extravagant dining experiences in this quiet and mysterious town.

The Tug, a boat shaped restaurant built in front of the renovated pier has spectacular views at sunset. This seafood restaurant offers delicacies such as oysters, lobster, crayfish and also the more common varieties of venison. Small and intimate the Tug is a great place for a romantic dinner for two.

Kucki’s Pub, the heart of Swakopmund is a seafood and grill restaurant and of course a Pub as the name suggests. This German inspired eatery is well loved by the locals and tourists alike. Spread over 2 floors and a terrace this restaurant can seat up to 180 people. The Pub also boasts a Wine lounge with mouth-watering bruchettas, delightful paninis and various tantalizing tapaz and over 190 bottles of South Africa’s finest wines.

Lighthouse Pub & Cafe is situated at the mole, or waterfront. This beach front restaurant offers the best grilled steaks and deep fried calamari and the atmosphere is always electric.

Napolitana is tucked away in-between many shops and office buildings and is well loved by the locals. This Italian bistro offers a great variety of pizza and pasta dishes.

Cafe Anton at Hotel Schweizerhauss offers the best cakes in town. This busy cafe overlooking the Amphi-theatre and African market is an absolute delight.
